Where beams, roof trusses, large windows and door frames are required we will supply them in either kiln dried or 'green' oak - that is freshly cut oak that is designed to dry once in place. Traditionally, all oak used in construction would have been green, and the resulting shrinkage and opening up of cracks as the timber dries must be regarded as part of the character of the work, whether old or new. Kiln dried oak can be used where the drying effects on green oak are not required, and we will often use this timber to create simulated beams to cover steelwork.
